Sugar Creek Synopsis

Thirty years after the Civil War, Adam Stanton finds himself alone in a field, his feet bare. He sets off across the landscape to seek help but finds none, for the locals know that to help the Shoeless Man means a visit from Death...

Sugar Creek Brief Review

The legend says a relentless, vicious horseman brings men who've lived past their time into the small town. He leaves them without shoes, without help, then hunts them down for three days before killing them.

Premiered November 7, 2006, at the Majestic Crest, 1262 Westwood Blvd, Westwood CA 96137. DVD was released July 24, 2007.

The movie was filmed in Arkansas in spring, 2006. Kevin Gage plays Sheriff Worton, who is trying to track down the killer. He wears an eye patch and rides a good horse. :)

In-depth interview with Sugar Creek director James Cotten covers his background, influences on the film and its story, and the actors. "Cotten calls his film a 'quirky little Southern fairy tale,' with nuances of Sleepy Hollow of the south. The story is based in Revelations in the Bible and is a 'fall of man' type of story. Symbolism is throughout the movie, with different characters portraying Christ, war, death, famine, temptation and pestilence. In the film, death chases after the main character, who is trying to understand how his own actions led him to his current dilemma."
