Strangeland Synopsis

Kevin Gage co-stars in this horror thriller as the police officer father of a teenage girl who is kidnapped and tortured by a sadistic maniac.

Strangeland Brief Review

Okay ... definitely a movie to avoid if you're not interested in seeing mutilated bodies or scenes of torture. But I put the DVD into the Mac and was able to fast-forward through the icky stuff and still get a pretty good sense of the plot and Kevin's role. Also got a lot of screencaps, a few of which have been processed and added. More to come.

Kevin plays a detective (assume homicide), Mike Gage, whose teenage daughter (Genevieve) and her best friend (Tiana) recently disappeared. When Tiana's mutilated body is pulled from a local pond, Mike is faced with the realization that his daughter is probably being similarly tortured. (Why the police department leaves him on the case is not clear.)

Mike is not a very likeable man. He makes a point not to show feelings. But clearly he is going through his own special torture as he follows leads, trying to find and rescue his daughter. It's a difficult role -- showing how a man feels when he has obviously mastered the ability to hide his feelings. In the first scene of the film, Mike is almost a mechanical man. But as the case unfolds, the strain begins to show, and expressions of grief and fear leak through Mike's mask.

I'm still only halfway through the film, will update the review and post more screencaps as time permits.

Robert LaSardo, who played opposite Kevin as "Rodriguez" in Double Tap, has a fun role here as a man who tries to explain the joy of body decorations to the skeptical police detectives.
