Point Blank Synopsis

Death row inmate Joe Ray (Kevin Gage) is among a group of dangerous prisoners being transported by bus, when they are "liberated" by a heavily-armed attack squad. The prisoners shoot up a shopping mall and take hostages. Joe's ex-commando brother, Rudy (Mickey Rourke) hears about the standoff and sneaks his way into the mall with his weapons and ninja techniques to free the hostages and rescue his wayward brother.

Point Blank Brief Review

Warning: Point Blank is obscenely violent in places, not recommended for the squeamish. In addition to the carnage to be expected during gun battles, one of the prisoners (Wallace, played by Danny Trejo) takes an obvious pleasure in killing and otherwise terrorizing the mall civilians.

While Wallace is the "very bad bad guy," Kevin Gage's Joe Ray plays the leader of the "not so bad bad guys." Though a convicted murderer, he displays no taste for unnecessary violence and tries to keep the body count to a minimum. If you are looking for lots of footage of Kevin looking good with long hair and solidly muscled bare arms carrying large deadly weapons, look no further.

Near the end of the movie, after Joe Ray has been wounded, the pathos and sweet music were too much to bear. The acting was fine, but the music and atmosphere were so contrary to the rest of the film. I confess I was laughing so hard I had tears running down my cheeks.

Bottom line: if you're looking for senseless violence, or can overlook it in your desire to see Kevin, Point Blank is worth a rental.

Point Blank Articles & Interviews

Point Blank - Mickey Rourke Online
Character synopsis of Mickey Rourke's "Rudy Ray" in Point Blank. "Rourke keeps your attention. He comes complete with bulging biceps, perfect tan and intimidating persona," says reviewer Diane Taylor. She encapsulates the movie, ending, "When it's all over, all Rudy Ray wants to do is let down his guard and mourn." Three clips, two of Kevin's death scene.

Review: Point Blank - The Unknown Movies
Reviewer Keith Bailey seems to think that Mickey Rourke is the star of Point Blank, and he just loves to hate his work. Strangely enough, though he loves this film, saying, "Not since Death Wish 3 have I seen such an entertaining and over the top bubbleheaded action flick." Interesting and detailed review, but unfortunately Kevin Gage is barely mentioned.
